Distinguished American Speaker Program
Dr. Robert Satloff, Executive Director
of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy
Author of Among the Righteous -
Lost Stories from the Holocaust' Long Reach into Arab Lands

On January 19, 2007, Ambassador Richard Jones hosted a Distinguished American Speaker Program at his residence with Dr. Robert Satloff on his new book, Among the Righteous - Lost Stories from the Holocaust's Long Reach into Arab Lands. The book presents the results of Dr. Satloff's three-year study of the ways individuals responded during the Holocaust in Arab countries which were governed by Axis powers during WWII. While noting the indifference of much of the Arab population and also acknowledging the perpetrators who helped the Nazi-era regimes, Dr. Satloff's examples of "heroic" Arabs touched the audiences and provoked a lively discussion. Dr. Satloff's description of his findings was welcomed by both Jewish and Arab audience members as a previously little known view of the Nazi period and as a new paradigm for discussing Arab-Jewish relations.
