| Professor Matthew Waxman, Columbia University, and Professor Daniel Byman, Georgetown University On March 7, 2008, Ambassador Richard Jones hosted a joint program with Professor Matthew Waxman, Associate Professor of Law at Columbia University, and Professor Daniel Byman, Director, Security Studies Program and the Center for Peace and Security Studies, Georgetown University, on the topic "American, European and Israeli Perspectives on Combating Terrorism." The presentations by Professors Waxman and Byman, who both served in senior positions in the U.S. Government, examined the different approaches taken by the United States, Israel, and several European countries in their attempts to fight terrorism, and explained some of the reasons behind the different approaches. The audience included experts in counter-terrorism and security, as well as students from the ATIDIM program at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and from the Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya. The joint presentation was followed by a lively discussion, with the speakers and audience agreeing that increased international cooperation is needed in order to combat global terrorism effectively.
