SECRETARY OF STATE COLIN POWELL TRAVELS TO THE MIDDLE EAST
(FEBRUARY 23-27 TRIP WILL FOCUS ON CONSULTATIONS WITH REGIONAL LEADERS)




Secretary of State Colin Powell will visit the Middle East region February 23-27. The secretary's itinerary includes Egypt, Gaza and the West Bank, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Syria.

The secretary has said that the purpose of his visit is to "share views with friends in the region" on a variety of issues relating to bilateral relations, Iraq, and the search for peace in the Middle East.

In addition to meetings with leaders, Powell said he will participate in Kuwaiti commemorations marking the tenth anniversary of the end of the Gulf War.
