Danny Glover and Felix Justice
Bring Black History Month
to Israeli Audiences

In a one-day whirlwind visit to Tel Aviv on February 15, some 700 people heard actors Danny Glover and Felix Justice pay tribute to Langston Hughes and Martin Luther King, Jr., by reading from their works at the American International School and the Suzanne Dellal Performing Arts Center. In a separate event at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque, Glover answered questions from 80 film and theater professionals about his work and civic activities.

At the school, which closed with Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech, students asked the artists about Dr. King's legacy and the status of civil rights in the U.S. today. Moved by Dr. King's speech opposing the Vietnam War, many of those at the cultural center drew parallels between the U.S. experience and the situation of Israelis and Palestinians today.

Sponsored by the U.S. State Department, the actors' visit was facilitated by the United Nations Development Program, for which Glover is a Goodwill Ambassador.
