THE DESERT DOESN'T BLOOM HERE ANYMORE
NOVA
VCR No. 2960-H, 1987, 58 mins.

Mismanagement of land and water resources has created crises in many parts of the world. Man's futile attempt to combat nature is illustrated by conditions in two very different areas: the valleys of the American Southwest and the Sahel of Western Africa.

FOR THE LONG RUN
VCR No. 3198-H, 1989, 20 mins.

Filmed in the Sequoia National Park, this program shows the latest technological instruments and research methods used by the National Park Service to study acid rain and ozone depletion. It also introduces cloud monitoring and rain sampling studies being conducted in other national parks across the United States.

RACHEL CARSON'S SILENT SPRING
The American Experience series
VCR No. 3474-H, 1993, 56 mins.

This program chronicles the life of Rachel Carson, a biologist whose message, about the environment as an interrelated organic system, created worldwide awareness of the dangers of environmental pollution and was instrumental in creating a new ecological consciousness.

STRATEGY FOR CRISIS RESPONSE
VCR No. 2923-H, 1989, 24 mins.

Using the derailing of a train carrying hazardous chemicals as an example, the State of Louisiana demonstrated how -- with the coordination of various government agencies, good training, equipment and speed -- they successfully solved the crisis.
