CLASS seminar for English teachers 2010 Every year the Office of Public Affairs of the United States Embassy in Israel organizes a seminar for 30 Israeli English high school teachers and English lecturers and trainers from all around the country. The seminar is entitled CLASS and is recognized by the Israel Ministry of Education which awards 56 hours of in-service training for full participation. Please note: Teachers who have participated in CLASS seminars in the past may not apply. CLASS is subsidized largely by the U.S. Department of State, which brings U.S. lecturers to Israel specifically for the seminar. This year, Mary Kay Harrington, Professor Emeritus of English at California Polytechnic State University, will speak on contemporary American literature; Professor Robert Bain, Associate Professor of History and Social Studies Education at the University of Michigan, will speak on aspects of modern U.S. history; and Rick Rosenberg, the State Department’s Regional English Language Officer together with Senior English Language Fellow, Kevin McCaughey, will demonstrate cutting-edge ESL technologies and methodologies showing how they may be used to incorporate the seminar texts into teaching modules for the English language classroom. CLASS is an immersion seminar, which means that the participants stay on the Kadoorie campus for 6 consecutive days from July 18 - 23, 2010 inclusive. The program usually begins at 8:30 a.m. and there will be some evening activities. Full board and lodging are provided; participants will share rooms and must bring their own sheets and towels. (Teachers who live close enough to the Kadoorie School to enable them to arrive in time for the first class at 8:30 a.m. and to remain for the evening activities are not required to sleep on campus.) Participant cost is 650 shekels. If you are interested in applying, please fill out the online application attached below. Application forms will also be posted on the Ministry of Education and ETNI websites. Registration closes on Friday June 11, 2010. Space is limited and we will be able to accept only 30 applicants. Successful applicants will be informed by June 22nd, 2010. |
