U.S. Folk Icon Peter Yarrow Headlines Celebration of Successful Education Effort
U.S. Ambassador and Mrs. James B. Cunningham tonight celebrated the initial steps in the successful implementation of the education program, “Operation Respect: Don’t Laugh at Me, a program that provides tools and techniques to create a respectful, safe and tolerant climate of learning in the classroom and the community. Their special guests – legendary U.S. folksinger Peter Yarrow, Israeli singing icon David Broza, and the “Voices of Peace Choir” of the Arab-Jewish Center in Jaffa – all performed before an enthusiastic and warm crowd at the Ambassador’s residence.
Peter Yarrow is in Israel on a week-long visit as a guest of the U.S. Embassy to promote “Operation Respect: Don’t Laugh at Me,” which he founded and leads. In Israel, the program is being implemented as a pilot in four schools (two Jewish and two Arab) by the Center of Educational Technology (CET), which adopted program materials for the Israeli school system, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
