Following is a statement by Special Envoy for Middle East Peace George Mitchell:
I’m pleased that the Israeli and Palestinian leadership have accepted indirect talks. We've begun to discuss the structure and scope of these talks and I will return to the region next week to continue our discussions. As we've said many times, we hope that these will lead to direct negotiations as soon as possible. We also again encourage the parties, and all concerned, to refrain from any statements or actions which may inflame tensions or prejudice the outcome of these talks.

US Ambassador to Israel James B. Cunningham today, Tuesday, February 23, 2010, visited the city of Bnei Brak as a guest of Mayor Rabbi Yaakov Asher. Ambassador Cunningham met with the members of the city council, as well as the city’s chief rabbi Moshe Landau and other prominent figures. On February 19, 2010, Ambassador and Mrs. Cunningham visited Mar Elias Educational Institutions (MEEI) in Ibillin, which consists of several educational facilities and attracts Arab students from all over the country. MEEI works on coexistence, building peace through education and reconciliation among the different religions in Israel. Amb Cunningham met with MEEI founder Archbishop Elias Chacour, and representatives of the MEEI's departments.
After visiting MEEI, Ambassador and Mrs. Cunningham visited the site of the new Mar Elias Campus in Nazareth and attended a seminar on The role of Academic studies as a Leverage for Socio-Economic Development. The US Forest Service International Programs are pleased to announce that we are taking applications for participation in the eleventh-annual International Seminar on Protected Area Management to be held July 12 - 31, 2010 at the University of Montana, USA.
The Seminar is a technical and professional course designed for mid-career planners and managers of nationally significant protected areas worldwide. The program is initiated and organized by the Universities of Montana, Idaho and Colorado State and the USDA Forest Service Office of International Programs.
