MESSAGE FROM AMBASSADOR RICHARD JONES
ON THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL

Congratulations Israel on your 60th Anniversary!
Anniversaries are natural times to look back at history and renew hope for the future.  I would like to note another important anniversary this year:  It has been thirty years since the Camp David Accords were agreed upon.  The signing of that document was a remarkable achievement for Israel. It fundamentally changed the nature of this region and helped this country move another step toward a normal national existence. Full Text

Vice President's Remarks at a Reception Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the State of Israel
THE VICE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Mr. Ambassador, Senator Lieberman, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen: good evening to all of you. It is indeed a pleasure to join this impressive gathering as we mark the 60th Anniversary of the modern state of Israel's founding, reaffirming the warm relationship between our two countries, and to honor the memory of a man who is a hero to both Israel and America, Colonel Mickey Marcus. (Applause.)

"Report Cover: Trafficking in Persons Report"Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000: Trafficking in Persons Report 2007
Trafficking in persons is a modern-day form of slavery, a new type of global slave trade. Perpetrators prey on the most weak among us, primarily women and children, for profit and gain. They lure victims into involuntary servitude and sexual slavery. Today we are again called by conscience to end the debasement of our fellow men and women. As in the 19th century, committed abolitionists around the world have come together in a global movement to confront this repulsive crime. President George W. Bush has committed the United States Government to lead in combating this serious 21st century challenge, and all nations that are resolved to end human trafficking have a strong partner in the United States." -- Secretary Rice
